Just musing on many AG-related topics on this New Years Day...
Kanani: She is so beautiful! I LOVE the book illustrations, and I love that the doll is a unique combination of features. No new features to the AG dolls (hazel eyes *yawn*, Jess facemold, etc), but a unique combination. I'm not sure if I'm going to spring for her (I'm only allowing myself one doll in 2011, so I have to make a good choice!) but I do enjoy her theme and collection. I have family that lives in Hawaii (though not Hawaiian; they're mainlanders who moved down there) and they've totally adopted the "Aloha Spirit" so I think that's really cute for AG to feature in a character. I look forward to reading her stories for sure!
I think all her outfits are cute, so I may pick one or two to add to my modern collection, if I don't get Kanani herself:
The Aloha Outfit is cute in certain ways -- love the sunglasses, the flip-flops, and the capris. Not so crazy about the colors they chose for the lettering on the shirt...
LOVE her bathing suit! I'm not a big "modesty" person necessarily, but I think for dolls representing little girls, bikinis are not appropriate. So I like that this is a one-piece, and the shorts are so practical for the water sports that Kanani enjoys. I don't understand the scarf going with a bathing suit, but it's cute, so I'd probably pair it with something else ;)
The luau set is so unique, I almost want it even though it's garishly pink and purple. I wish it were in greens and blues, or at least a little less pink! But because the outfit is so different, it seems worthwhile.
Her PJ's are most definitely coming here. I love the tunic style top with the leggings, and I adore those fuzzy flip-flop slippers, and the fact that it's not pink.
Her chair/ottoman are adorable too! And I didn't realize the ottoman opens up for storage -- super cool. I'm thinking this will match well with Chrissa's craft table and will make for a nice "rec room" for my modern girls. We'll see.
NEW HISTORICAL OUTFIT RELEASES!!
I'm not usually a fan of Julie's outfits from the 1970's, but I love this outfit. It has great mix-and-match potential as a modern outfit, which I think is why I like it.
Even though this seems a bit cutesy for Molly, I like this outfit. And I'm always looking for new stuff for Molly ;)
I find it amusing that I love so much of Rebecca's collection, but I don't care for the doll. Hmm... But this dress is SO spot-on for the period; it looks like it's straight out of an antique photograph. Definitely getting this dress for my time-travelers!
And I can't bring myself to post/discuss Kit's new dress, because it's hideous. As someone said on the Playthings Forum: no way would Kit be caught dead in that dress!
I cannot put into words how much I love the special edition mini dolls in holiday wear!! What a great concept, AG, for celebrating the 25th Anniversary! However, not fair that the outfits do not come separately...boo. I already have all the minis, so I'd love to have their holiday outfits, but I don't need a second of each doll! Annoyingly enough, I recently bought a second Felicity (the first became Harry Potter) and a second Molly (the first became Hermione Granger and her glasses went to Harry) in their Meet outfits...wish I would have known/waited and bought the special edition mini to replace...now I have two meet outfits and will have three of each doll plus the holiday outfit. Ugh. Hello Ebay! Or perhaps donation to a deserving youngster...we'll see.
I'm also excited about the deluxe editions of the AG movies, specifically Felicity. I ADORE Felicity and her movie is the best of all the AG movies, in my opinion. However, I'm wondering if there's enough special content on the deluxe edition to warrant buying a second copy...seeking answers on the Playthings forum for that one.

Well, time to go sit and ponder my collection, present and future. Happy 2011, everyone!
